How our community helped 40 families during the floods

When the water rose, the network we built for sharing reels became a network for sharing rescue boats.

How our community helped 40 families during the floods

Nobody builds a media page thinking it will one day coordinate relief supplies. But when the floods hit, our inbox turned into a control room overnight.

What happened

A follower messaged at 2 AM: her street was underwater and no helpline was answering. We posted her location. Within twenty minutes, three followers with a fishing boat were on their way.

That night we understood what 212,000 followers actually means. It means 212,000 pairs of hands.

What we learned about organising

  • Speed beats perfection. A messy post at 2 AM saves more people than a polished one at 9 AM.
  • Local knowledge is gold. The fastest rescuers were always neighbours, not agencies.
  • Trust is built before the crisis. People acted on our word because of years of daily honesty.

Forty families got food, shelter or transport through the community that week. It remains the proudest thing this page has ever done — and we didn't do it. You did.
